About Me

Kirk McGuire: I am what you would call a "born artist" I was considered artistic at age four. I am a self taught artist as well. Sculpting and creating for over fourty years. I am internationaly known for my art work. My works have been shown in Singapore, Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, throughout the U.S. I have had pieces collected all over the world. Selling over 1,500 of my bronze creations. I love nature and wildlife, photography, food and travel. "My sculptures defy gravity with a graceful balance, and spark one's imagination. Added use of patina's commands attention to detail, feeding the soul and creating an emotional impact. I am truly a fine artist, and master of my craft."

"What sculpting a Giant Squid did for me"

This is my story about how I came to sculpt a giant squid. Though this story seems sad. It is the truth, and it is what "got me through" When you read it please don't feel sad at all. I don't feel sad. My life is great and everything I have ever gone through has brought me here to this great place. I just wanted to share how the giant squid came about. In the year 2000 I had just lost my best friend and patina artist for my sculptures in a motorcycle accident. I then found out I was losing the lease on my studio, where I had sculpted so many of my bronze creations. The final blow was finding out that my mother would die soon. She had been battling cancer for twelve years. She too was a artist. With all the bad news how could I possibly go on I thought. Years before one of my first pieces, was of a Giant Pacific Octopus. People had always said I should sculpt a Giant Squid. I as well always wanted to attempt this. Since everything seemed so dismal in my life right then. Something happened, something came over me. I decided I would tackle sculpting a giant squid! I threw myself into studying film and photos of the great beast. A true giant had never been filmed or seen really back then. But not long after I sculpted my giant, one was captured on film. I then started sculpting my squid. I sculpted frantically for seven days straight, and at least twelve hours a day. Sometimes not even stopping for a meal. I escaped into this squid sculpture. Throwing myself deep into my work and passion. Hiding from all that was crushing at my heart. I needed money pretty bad at the time as well. Upon completion of my squid bronze. I placed it in a Sausalito art gallery. I sold it right away to a woman that was driving past, and spotted my squid in the gallery window. Later I met her, and found out that she did not even know what kind of animal or creature my squid was! She just knew she loved it. So I feel very spiritual about this piece. Sadly my mom passed shortly after the squids completion. She never did get to see it. But she was a great artist and sculpted until the day she died. I plan on doing the same. I hope you enjoy my giant squid. I plan on doing more giants, as well as octopus. I am currently sculpting on a large jellyfish table as well. I will be posting blogs about it and other creations in the near future.
